Today is recognised as the hardest of the West Highland Way. The distance is 14 miles of which the first 7 are reasonable. However the last 7 are extremely slow going. It is hard to make progress because you are on a thin track alongside Loch Lomond. You are very much clambering up and down over rocks and trees. This goes on mile after mile. At the end of today's walk I was totally shattered and just wanted to get warm and sleep.
Hi Guys, yes the stretch along Loch Lomond is really tough. Enjoy your day on Wednesday, to me it will be the best day of your trip. Rannoch Moor and then Glen Coe are absolutely stunning. You will pass the Bridge of Orchy Hotelwhich was my 'posh' accommodation and very very good. I loved Rannoch Moor the best for its solitude, the biggest expanse of wilderness in the whole Kingdom. Watch out for the wee midges....reputedly 24 million per hectare! It's Still May so you should be ok.
